It’s an incredibly exciting time for anyone whose passion like ours is CO2 reduction and Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS). The trouble is that there is so much going on and so many sources of information that just knowing where to start on your CCUS journey is a major step forward. Even knowing exactly where you and your project fit in the CCUS continuum can be a challenge not to mention getting a foothold so that you can then actually develop your project and make a difference. The CCUS value chain consists broadly of: CO2 Capture - removal from various industries using various removal technologies CO2 Utilisation – can used to support clean hydrogen production for power generation and transport, production of synthetic fuels, low carbon construction materials or in the food and drinks industries. CO2 Transportation – via pipeline or marine transport to geological storage (sub surface injection to wells or cavities) or for utilisation. Typically all steps in the above value chain are coordinated through CCUS Clusters such as those currently being established in the Teesside and Humber regions of the UK. With our long standing expertise in CCUS we can offer introductory and bespoke training along with tailored support in identifying, developing and delivering potential CCUS projects for any or all steps in the value chain. EPC or not EPC? That is the question! In fact this one probably applies to any industrial project. The conventional EPC transactional approach is one size that doesn’t fit all. In fact in our view it’s becoming increasingly obsolete for obvious reasons. A credible alternative is the Integrated Project Delivery model where you leave your badge at the door and buy in to being part of a fully Integrated project delivery team that can liberate real benefits to getting projects successfully delivered. In essence the IPD model allows you to pick your best team with best in class for each element of the project. It’s essentially a collaborative approach using ‘lean’ principles and can rapidly get you where you need to be on a project which is: Reduction in management layers. People are empowered. Spreads the Leadership load. Everyone helps each other because their output is dependent on others output. Fosters common Goals and Objectives. If you need help, advice or training our project delivery team can share the benefits of their experience. Contact us on info@pivotpmlimited.co.uk Or call: +44 7880181738.
If you’re in projects right now you will no doubt be experiencing significant Supply Chain challenges around all manner of materials and services. For example Stainless Steel and Alloy materials, Some Steel Sections and even Cladding are being reported as problematic! No surprises in that the two main contributors are the Covid pandemic hangover and the war in Ukraine – both desperately sad events and take your pick which is the greater of the two from a supply chain perspective! What can you do/are you doing to maintain schedule and price when all the evidence is screaming that you may not be able to keep both. Some taster tips: Pre order bulk materials, use the 80/20 rule and top up. Select vendors that will negotiate on the stock situation. They’re out there! Look for alternative materials to those originally specified. Design and performance limitations will need to be checked out but there is mileage in this one. De-scope and/or defer. Again, you’d be surprised at where this might end up. Act now as there’s no time to lose and you do not want to be at the back of the queue!
